I've now seen it at last, and agree with the verdict - thanks for the tip! Unlike Paris, London is underserved cinematographically, so these things are always a great pleasure to find. A far more nuanced and sensitive look at small-time East End crime than, say, Ritchie could muster, and wonderfully observant gender politics. Surely something from the early scenes needs to appear on the Cinema du Journal?
